02 Sep Aurora Project Donation Drive Sponsored by Miller Diversified
Estimated Read Time: 3 Minutes
Right now hundreds of women and children in our city have no place to call home, or are staying in a dangerous living situation because they have no where else to turn. Shelter beds are full, waiting lists are growing and every night families are forced to choose between the streets or unsafe living situations. This isn’t just somewhere else, this is here in Toledo, our home. These are our neighbors, our sisters, our cousins, our friends, our co-workers, OUR PEOPLE.
You can help break the cycle – one donation, one conversation, one act of kindness and compassion at a time.
How can you help?
This September Miller Diversified is launching a donation drive to help support The Aurora Project, and we are inviting you to be part of the change. Every item collected, every dollar given, and every moment you share about this mission helps us reach more people in need. During the month of September we are transforming generosity into real, life-changing impact – right here in our community.
Your contribution, whether it’s basic hygiene products or a monetary donation, ensures that a family in need will be seen, supported, and cared for.
What is Aurora Project?
“Aurora Project, Inc is a comprehensive housing and life skills program that empowers homeless women and their children to achieve self-sufficiency and independence by providing resources and learning opportunities in a supportive and safe environment. Established in 1986, our program is the only one in our area that allows mothers and their children to live together while they work on the issues which led to their homelessness.”
Why is Miller Diversified Partnering with Aurora Project?
1.Funded mostly by grants and donors
Aurora Project has some partnerships with other organizations and grants (read more details here), but much of their support comes from individual donors. We want to support these efforts of fundraising and bring awareness to the needs of the organization.
2. Families can stay together
In many situations of homelessness and domestic abuse, the mother and child(ren) are not able to stay together. The child may enter into foster care or be separated at a shelter. At Aurora, the mothers seeking help are able to stay with their kids while receiving the support they need. This keeps the children and mother from experiencing further trauma and helps them to start healing together.
3. Direct support from knowledgeable team
Aurora Project helps women and their children increase their opportunity to obtain and maintain permanent housing by providing services including nutrition education, job skills training, GED tutoring, financial management, life skills, trauma care, and more.
4. In line with Miller Diversified’s core values
Miller Diversified has been a family-owned business for over 100 years. Family is and has always been an integral part of our story. We value the families of those who are a part of our company as well as those who are a part of greater community. Aurora Project is an organization that we whole-heartedly support. We are proud to partner with the organization to help support women and children obtain housing and better their lives.
