21 May St. John’s Jesuit Senior, Max St. Clair, Shadows Miller Diversified Team Members
Estimated Read Time: 2 Minutes
At Miller Diversified, we believe a fresh perspective keeps our industry sharp. Recently, we welcomed Max St. Clair, a St. John’s Jesuit senior, as an honorary team member for a two-week job shadowing experience. Max’s goal was simple: to get an inside look at the commercial real estate industry before heading off to Bowling Green State University this fall to study Construction Management. Spoiler alert: Max brought curiosity, insight, and a penchant for great questions.
From the Classroom to the Construction Site
Max connected with Miller Diversified thanks to Mr. Doug Pearson, his St. John’s teacher (and, in a uniquely Toledo twist, the father of our own Business Development Manager, Nate Pearson). Max shadowed Nate and our construction team to get an idea of the day-to-day for professionals in construction services. Max’s background isn’t just academic—his grandfather worked as a Construction Foreman for over 30 years, planting the seeds of Max’s interest early on. That foundation showed as Max dove headfirst into discussions about project management, timelines, and what it really takes to bring a building from blueprint to reality.
“It was a pleasure to have Max,” Nate shared. “He’s personable, punctual, and passionate. He asked fantastic questions and showed a genuine interest in learning. There’s no doubt he’ll find success as he continues his journey.”
Beyond the Hard Hats: Exploring Commercial Realty and Property Management
The second week took Max behind the scenes with Jerry Miller, President of Miller Diversified Realty. Here, Max expanded his understanding into the worlds of property management and commercial real estate—sides of the industry less familiar to him. He learned how construction, property management, and commercial realty are deeply interconnected, and just how much research and due diligence goes into every phase.
Max was struck by the integration of the different departments of the industry and impressed by the strategic thinking of the Miller team in every department. “I was surprised by how much these fields overlap,” Max remarked. “It was eye-opening to see the amount of expertise and teamwork it takes to make every project run smoothly.”
Jerry Miller, who—along with President Kurt Miller and Nate Pearson—is a proud St. John’s alum, is passionate about supporting the next generation of industry leaders. “It’s important to expose students like Max to real-world opportunities,” Jerry said. “Max brought enthusiasm and curiosity, and we wish him nothing but success as he starts at BGSU.”
Cultivating the Next Generation in Commercial Real Estate
Job shadowing experiences like Max’s are a win-win. They give students a hands-on introduction to a multifaceted industry, while industry veterans gain a fresh perspective and the chance to mentor future professionals. At Miller Diversified, our commitment to construction, real estate, property management, development, and investments is strengthened by engaging with young minds who are eager to learn and contribute.
We’re grateful to Max for spending two weeks with us, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for him as he takes the next step at Bowling Green State University. Here’s hoping he brings a little Miller Diversified spirit with him—along with that unstoppable curiosity.
